Murdo would like more people who feel they are victims of “Scotland’s failing NHS” to come forward.
He recently met with bereaved family members of former patients of Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Fife, along with Dr Sandesh Gulhane, Scottish Conservative health spokesman. Serious issues at the Victoria Hospital have been raised by a number of families in the past year, and there is deep concern as to the levels of care being provided in the hospital.
Local resident, Trish Nolan, of Dunfermline, who’s distressing story of her late husband’s treatment stunned Fife locals when she spoke out in the summer, brought together other bereaved family members of those who had experienced horrific care and treatment at the hands of NHS Fife and the failing Scottish NHS.
She commented, "We arrived as individuals, each working through losing our loved ones in harrowing circumstances and left as a group, united in our grief, our concerns listened to with empathy and understanding. We are determined to continue to campaign for more dignity for the dying and sensitivity to seriously ill patients and their loved ones."
Murdo has supported Mrs Nolan throughout her campaign in a bid to shine a light on the shocking standards of care her late husband received at Victoria Hospital.
He said: “Sandesh and myself listened to some very harrowing and upsetting stories from the relatives of former patients of Victoria Hospital in Fife. They all highlighted how deceased loved ones had not received proper and adequate treatment at the hospital and frankly, that is just not good enough.
“It was good to meet all these family members and I must praise them for coming forward to meet us to express their concerns at the poor level of care their relatives experienced at Victoria Hospital.”
Murdo added: “Mr Nolan’s medical case was horrendous. Nobody should have to go through what he and his family experienced. I have met NHS Fife to discuss Mrs Nolan’s concerns and am happy to be contacted by other families who have had similar experiences and meet with them, in order to take the matter further. These are all people who have been failed by Scotland’s NHS.”
