Murdo has praised a UK Government scheme that has provided funding to a Perthshire school project.
The funding of nearly £30,000 has gone towards the installation of an artificial grass sports pitch at Breadalbane Academy in Aberfeldy, provided by the UK Government’s Multisport Facilities Investment.
Grassroots sports facilities in Scotland will directly benefit from the latest £2 million investment in high quality multi-sport facilities from the UK Government, in partnership with the Scottish Football Association.
As part of the UK Government’s 2022/23 commitment, 23 sites in Scotland will see their facilities improved, significantly increasing the availability and access to high quality facilities for football and other grassroots sports.
Commenting, Murdo Fraser MSP said: “This funding of £28,865 from the UK Government to Perth and Kinross Council has proved to be very valuable in the installation of the artificial grass pitch at Breadalbane Academy and will be warmly welcomed by pupils, parents and school staff.
“A key priority for the UK Government has been to level up access to community sports facilities in all parts of the United Kingdom - to help as many people as possible to get involved in sport and to deliver all of the mental and physical health benefits associated with active and healthy lifestyles. The artificial pitch at Breadalbane Academy is just one good example of that.
“I’m delighted to see that this latest funding is part of the UK Government’s ongoing £300 million multi-year investment into grassroots multi-sport pitches across the UK by 2025 - with over £20 million of this being invested in Scotland.”
