Murdo has welcomed funding for improvements to the road to Glen Lyon.
He was reacting to the announcement that Perth and Kinross Council has been awarded £389,128 from the Scottish Forestry Strategic Timber Transport Scheme (STTS), to carry out road improvements on the C448 Glen Lyon road during the 2022/23 financial year.
The STTS funds projects that enable the sustainable transport of timber in rural areas of Scotland.
Commenting, Murdo Fraser MSP said: “This announcement is very welcome indeed. Anyone who has ever driven on the Glen Lyon road will appreciate just how tricky it can be, and delays in getting to a destination can often cause frustration for motorists.
“There are a lot of lorries who use the road for the transport of timber. This funding will allow for the likes of ‘passing places’ to be built and improve the overall state of the road.”
Murdo continued: “The forestry industry plays a very important role as part of the local economy in areas of Perth and Kinross, so I’m sure that this funding will be met with relief by local residents and also the timber industry.”
