Murdo has given his wholehearted backing to the Scottish Conservative Party’s five key priorities outlined ahead of the General Election.
At their recent annual conference, held in Aberdeen, the Scottish Conservatives revealed the issues they will focus on ahead of the national vote, which is expected later this year.
Murdo says that he is “fully focused” on the “real challenges” facing people and communities in the Perth and Kinross council area, which is in sharp contrast to the SNP who want to make the General Election all about independence.
Scottish Conservative candidates will be standing on a manifesto that is committed to:
- Repairing and upgrading key roads including the A9.
- Recruiting 1,000 extra GPs across Scotland to ease the NHS backlog in Tayside.
- Recruiting 1,000 extra police officers, which would mean a further 28 officers on the streets in Perth and Kinross.
- Restoring standards in schools in Perth and Kinross to their once world-leading reputation.
- Cutting taxes for hard-pressed workers and families in Perth and Kinross.
Commenting, Murdo said: “People and communities in Perth and Kinross are facing difficult times right now and need the SNP Government to be focused on their real priorities. Sadly, Humza Yousaf and the SNP have made it crystal clear that they want to turn the forthcoming General Election into a proxy vote on independence.
“By sharp contrast, Scottish Conservative candidates will be fully focused on the real challenges facing people in Perth and Kinross.
“From upgrading and progressing with dualling the A9, which the SNP have shamefully neglected during their 17 years in office, to recruiting more GPs to help ease the growing backlog for suffering patients and dedicated staff in NHS Tayside.
“We also want to keep our communities in Perth and Kinross safe and reverse the trend of the SNP presiding over the lowest police officer numbers since 2008. I am also delighted to back plans to restore schools in Perth and Kinross to their once world-leading reputation and ensure pupils and teachers feel safe in their learning environment.
“Finally, we want to reduce the tax burden on hard-pressed workers and families in the region who are suffering due to the SNP making Scotland the highest taxed part of the United Kingdom.”
Murdo continued: “As I campaign on the doorsteps in Perth and Kinross these are the day-to-day issues that people are raising with me, not the SNP’s obsession with independence.
“Voters in Perth and Kinross can send Humza Yousaf a message by voting for the Scottish Conservatives to get the focus onto your real priorities and take Scotland forward.”
